Swiss Medical School

Prep for the Swiss German medicine admission test

·         What prep do you do?

·         Send them to the medtest in Bern, Basel, Zurich, Luzern. 4 day course 1300 CHF and they get money back if they fail the test.  Run frequently. http://www.eignungstest.ch/

·         More of a challenge than they expected – not as advanced as they thought they were.

·         Some students have to do prep more than once. This can be done in the summer after graduation.

·         But would do it earlier in case they are not prepared.  Jan of senior year would be a good time.

·         There are books that are available for prep.

Medicine – UK Age Limit

Is there a minimum age limit for entry to medical school?

Some medical schools in the UK specify that medical students should be 18 years of age by the beginning of their medical degree. This is generally the case with medical schools that teach the medical degree in a way that requires medical students to have clinical contact with patients from the outset of the course. You are advised to check the minimum age requirement of the medical schools before applying

This is the BMA who says ‘some’ – if a student then chooses a degree that isn’t the integrated practice course (generally those who take the BMAT – Oxford and Cambridge etc. with the traditional academic first then clinical afterwards – might well be OK.  However, Cambridge says

Students under the age of 18 cannot undertake any clinical elements of the Medicine course, which start in the second term of first year at the latest. Therefore, applicants must have reached the age of 18 by the start of the second term of their first year.
